A year after finishing second to Loyalsock, the Wellsboro Varsity boys basketball team were eliminated in the first round by Lewisburg as they lost, 64-47.
The Hornets kept the game close early against the Top-5 ranked Green Dragons, but Lewisburg would go on a three-point shooting spree and take a 19-12 lead to close out the first quarter and led 36-26 at halftime.
In the third quarter both Lewisburg's and the Hornets' defenses dug in as neither team scored more than 10 points. Lewisburg, however, continued to extend their lead as they held a 46-34 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was all Lewisburg as Wellsboro started to wear out the Hornets' starters as they held on for the win.
Senior Joey Doganiero led the Hornets with 14 points while Junior Michael Pietropola added 11. Junior Kieron Smethers had nine points and five rebounds, Sophomore Dawson Prough netted eight points while Senior Dylan Prough chipped in with five points and five assists.
The loss ends Wellsboro's season at 19-6 (8-2 NTL Division 1).
