Hornet track sweeps Williamson, North Penn

The Wellsboro Varsity track teams completed their regular season by sweeping Williamson and North Penn on Monday, May 5.

The girls came in first with 83 points while the boys won with 102.

For the girls, Junior Lauren Bleggi won the 100m in 13.0 and Sophomore Riley Kitchen was fourth at 14.2. Sophomore Lindsey Graver was 2nd in the 200m at 27.5 and the 400m at 1:04.7.

Wellsboro swept the 3200m with Sophomore Camryn Keane (13:48.0) and Freshman Janessa Davis (13:57.0) taking home the top two spots, and Senior Kaelyn Keane (17.7) and Junior Elise Becker (18.5) were 1st and 2nd in the 100m hurdles. Sophomore Raisa Rogers took home 1st place in the 300m hurdles at 51.7 while Kaelyn Keane (52.1), Becker (54.7) followed.

The Lady Hornets’ 4x100m relay of Rogers, Kaelyn Keane, Kitchen, and Sophomore Joey Taft took home the top spot in 55.2. Rogers was 2nd in the high jump at 4' 9", Freshman Melody Benner was 3rd in the pole vault (7' 6"), Bleggi was 2nd in the long jump (14' 11.5"), Sophomore Mikayla Feil was 4th in the triple jump (27' 7").

Senior Alex Kurtz won the shot put with a throw of 29' 7.5" and Sophomore Jada Jackson was third at 27' 5.5". Senior Katie Straniere (87' 10") won the discus, Kurtz (77' 8") was 3rd, and Junior Meghan Bodine was 4th (77' 8"). Kurtz was 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 95' 6" and Kaelyn Keane was 4th at 86' 8".

For the boys, Senior Dan Brooks (11.7) and Junior Michael Pietropola (11.8) were 1st and 2nd in the 100m, Sophomore Quinten Curneir was 4th in the 200m at 25.8, and Freshmen Brandon Lamphier (1:00.0) and Devan Warner (1:01.9) were 2nd and 3rd in the 400m, respectively.

Senior Joey Doganiero won the 800m with a time of 2:10.0. Wellsboro swept the 1600m run as Sophomore David Zavetsky (5:12.0), Sophomore Isaac Leach (5:14.8), and Freshman Alden Weiner (5:18.9) took home the top three spots. Leach won the 3200m in 12:01.0 and Weiner was 2nd at 12:09.0.

Senior Blair Carson returned to action to win the 110m hurdles in 17.8 and Junior Jack Chambers finished right behind him in 18.0. Chambers won the 300m hurdles in 44.2 and Sophomore Rich Tardieu was 2nd in 44.7.

Wellsboro's 4x100m relay team of Carson, Dan Brooks, Pietropola, and Chambers won in 46.2.

Tardieu finished 2nd in the high jump as he cleared 5' 7", Sophomore Anthony Cooper was 2nd in the pole vault (10' 0"), Pietropola won the long jump at 18' 6.5", and Tardieu won the triple jump at 37' 0.75" with Junior Jake Mitchell third at 35' 4".

Senior Blake Gamble won the shot put at 45' 6.75", Junior Bill Lupkowski won the discus at 122' 11", and Junior Ben Davis was 2nd in the javelin at 121' 2".

The girls finished the regular season at 8-0 (8-0 NTL) while the boys were 6-2 (6-2 NTL). Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, May 10 as they compete at the NTL Track Meet.
