Three Hornets scored in double-figures as the Wellsboro Varsity boys basketball team defeated rival Mansfield, 67-55 Monday night.
Wellsboro was led by Junior Kieron Smethers with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks, Sophomore Dawson Prough scored a career high 19 points, and Senior Joey Doganiero added 17 points in the win.
The Hornets started strong, holding an 18-12 lead after the first quarter and held on 30-22 at halftime. The Hornets turned up the heat in the second half scoring 17 in the third and 20 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
In addition to the three double-figure scorers, Junior Michael Pietropola had 5 points, Senior Dylan Prough scored 4, and Junior Jake Mitchell pitched in 2 points.
In the J.V. game the Hornets lost 34-19. Freshman Brandon Lamphier led the team with 7 points.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-3. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 8 as they host Towanda in NTL Division 1 play.
