The Wellsboro Varsity baseball team dropped a 7-4 game to Coudersport on Monday, April 21.
The Hornets and Falcons were tied at 3-3, but Couderspot scored four runs in the sixth inning to claim the win. Wellsboro scored one run in the seventh inning, but were unable to complete the rally.
Sophomore Dawson Prough led the way, going 2-for-3 with a double and home run with 2 RBIs. Senior Dylan Prough added a double with an RBI while Sophomore Nick Tremper and Senior Cody DeHaas also had hits. DeHaas knocked in a run as well.
Sophomore James Mundy started on the mound and went four innings to strike out four while allowing five walks. Dylan Prough came on in relief and earned the loss. He went two innings with no strikeouts and one walk.
Sophomore Sam Moss pitched the final inning, striking out two with one walk.
"What's lost in the score is the job James did for us tonight," said head coach Philip Prough. "He pitched four effective innings at a time when we need another pitcher to rise to the occasion. With all the rain outs, we're scheduled for 5 games in 7 days. James' performance gives us a lot of confidence that he can be relied upon to throw innings. I give him a lot of credit.
"He's been a development project for us this year and he's worked hard in his bullpen sessions. I like his pitcher's mentality. He began to fade in the fourth inning. But with more stamina and more reps, James will be a key pitcher for us in the future."
With the loss the Hornets fall to 3-4 (1-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action today as they host Northeast Bradford.
