The Wellsboro Varsity boys track team took home first place with 99 points against Wyalusing on Tuesday, April 1.
The Hornets took home the top two spots in the 100m run as Dan Brooks won in 11.4 and Junior Michael Pietropola was second in 11.8. Both Brooks and Pietropola finished one and two in the 200m run, with Brooks finishing at 24.6 and Pietropola second at 24.8.
In the 400m run, Senior Joey Doganiero took home first in 52.6 and Junior Kieron Smethers was second in 54.5. Doganiero also took home the top spot in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.4.
In the 110m hurdles, Junior Jack Chambers took home first place with a time of 17.7 and Senior Blair Carson finished right behind him in 18.4. Chambers took the top spot in the 300m hurdles in 44.6, followed by Sophomore Rich Tardieu in 46.3.
Wellsboro took the 4x100m relay with a time of 45.9 and the 4x400m in 3:49.0.
The Hornets swept the high jump with Smethers in first (5' 8"), Junior Nick Marple in second (5' 6"), and Tardieu in third (5' 6"). Tardieu won the long jump in 17' 1.75" followed by Freshman Bryon Callahan (17' 1"), and Senior Jermain Brooks in third (16' 6.5"). Junior Jake Mitchell was second in the triple jump at 35' 9.5".
The Hornets also swept each throwing event as Senior Blake Gamble won the shot put with a throw of 43' 8", Marple won the javelin at 163' 3", and Junior Bill Lupkowski won the discus at 111' 5".
With the win, the Hornets start the season at 1-0 (1-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, April 3 as they host Troy.
