Senior Erik Stemcosky scored two goals give the Wellsboro Varsity boys soccer team an NTL victory over Athens Thursday.
Stemcosky scored at 5:38 of the first half off an assist from Sophomore Tucker Worthington and he scored with 21:18 left in the game off an assist from Sophomore Quinten Curneir.
The Hornets took 14 shots on the night to Athens 13, and Junior Jake Mitchell made 9 saves to record the shut out.
"I am very happy for the boys to travel to Athens and beat a very good team," said head coach John Shaffer. "The team defended well as a whole with joe Allen and jack chambers controlling the back and Jake made some great saves.
"When we chose to do the proper things in attack we were very dangerous. The goal going forwards is to create more chances instead of only 3 or 4 a game."
With the win, the Hornets improve to 9-3 (9-3 NTL). The team will be back in action on Saturday, October 5 as they host Troy.
