The Wellsboro Middle School basketball teams each recorded wins over Galeton Wednesday night.
The boys team, led by Cole Cavnaugh and Bryan Callahan's 10 points, defeated Galeton 42-12. Dalton Prough and Collin Pietropola recorded 7 points each, Brandon Lamphier had 4 points, and Quinn Henry and Jacob Singer each netted 2 points.
"Everyone played team basketball tonight," said head coach Ed Hamm. "We did a good job at limiting our turnovers and taking high percentage shots."
With the win over Galeton and a 42-25 loss to Mansfield, the Hornets are now 8-7 on the year.
In the girls game, the Lady Hornets topped Galeton 21-14. Rachael Tuttle lead all scorers with 9 points (7 rebounds), Autum Kitajima added 4 points, and Lizzie Poirier, Sydney Tremper, Kaeli Butters (8 rebounds), and Jessica Grab added 2 points each.
"What a great game for our team tonight," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We played about as sloppy and poorly as you can the first 4 minutes of the game and got down 7-1 right away.
"The light came on the start the second quarter and our girls began to give oustanding effort. We played tremendous defense and rebounded very well, holding Galeton to 1 point in the 2nd, 0 in the 3rd, and 6 in the final frame, while getting just enough offense to get by. I am so happy for the girls, to play so hard, and see it pay off against a very talented team in Galeton."
The Lady Hornet B team also won 12-6.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve their season record to 10-6.
Both teams will return to action this Friday, March 22 as they travel to Cowanesque Valley.
