The Wellsboro J.V. volleyball team won the Troy J.V. Volleyball Tournament over the weekend.
Wellsboro was in pool B to start the day and beat Williamson 2-1 (25-19, 13-25, 25-23) and lost to Corning 2-1 (22-25, 25-12, 24-26) leaving the team at 3-3 in pool play. Wellsboro came out of pool play seeded 6 to play number 3 Towanda, which they went on to beat in the quarterfinals, 25-15.
The Lady Hornets advanced to the semi-finals to play number 2 Troy and defeated them them 2-1 (23-25, 25-16, 17-15) to advance to the finals to play the undefeated Horsehead Raiders. Wellsboro took home the title with a 2-0 victory (25-23 & 28-26).
Sophomore Haley Zuchowski had 39 points 11 kills, Sophomore Darci Warriner had 23 points 14 kills, Sophomore Mikayla Feil had 3 points, 21 kills, and 3 blocks.
Sophomore Maddy Kyle had 8 points 18 assists, Freshman Morgan Florio had 8 points, 10 kills, and 26 assists, and Sophomore Hannah Wagaman had 20 digs.
"It was very exciting day and we played very well," said head coach Sharon Zuchowski. "The girls should be very proud of their win."
In Middle School action from Saturday, Wellsboro beat Troy 2-0 (25-13 & 25-20). The B team also won 2-1 (25-15, 19-25 & 16-14).
