The Wellsboro JV baseball team lost to Canton and tied with them in a double header Thursday afternoon.
Offense was at a premium in the first game as Freshman Sam Moss took a no-hitter into the bottom of the fifth before giving up a single. Following the single, a sacrifice fly with an error advanced the runner home. Canton's pitcher, Martell threw a no-hitter against the Hornets, who could not muster up any offense.
In the second game of the double header, the Hornets took a 3-0 lead in the second inning due to their patience at the plate and willingness to draw walks. Sophomore Dylan Widows, Freshman James Mundy and Moss scored runs. Wellsboro had three hits in the game with Sophomore Tanner Swan, Freshman Joe Allen, and Sophomore Nick Levindoski contributing a single a piece.
Allen threw six quality innings striking out seven and giving up three unearned runs in the fourth inning. The game was called for darkness after the sixth inning with the score tied 3-3.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 0-3-2 on the year.
he JV baseball team will be back in action Saturday, April 20 as they travel to Towanda to take on the Black Knights.
