The Wellsboro boys soccer team played under the lights at Smyth Park in Mansfield for 1890's Weekend and came home with a 3-1 win against Liberty.
The Hornets got on the board in the 37th minute when Senior Erik Stemcosky scored off an assist from Sophomore Quinten Curneir to put the Hornets up 1-0. In the 42nd minute Senior Dan Brooks scored to put the Hornets up 2-0 and Freshman Josiah Hill scored off Curneir's second assist of the game to give the Hornets at 3-0 lead.
Liberty went on to score in the 74th minute to make the final score 3-1.
Junior Jake Mitchell stopped two shots on the day.
"I was very happy with how the boys played tonight," said head coach John Shaffer. "It took us about 20 minutes to get into the game but once we got comfortable I think we dominated.
"If we would have been more clinical in the final third the score line could have easily been 6,7 to one. I was very happy with the play of the center backs, outside of one mental lapse at the end of the game they contained a dangerous player in Cody Schmouder."
With the win, the Hornets improve to 8-2 (8-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, October 1 as they travel to Galeton.
