The Wellsboro Varsity boys soccer team shut out Williamson 3-0 Saturday to earn an NTL win.
The Hornets took 8 shots on the day, connecting on three of them all in the first half. Senior Cody DeHaas got the Hornets on the scoreboard first as he found the back of the net off an assist from Freshman Josiah Hill in the 16th minute.
Three minutes later Senior Erik Stemcosky scored the second goal of the game off an assist from Senior Aaron Dillman. The Hornets third and final goal came in the 22nd minute when Junior Gillan Alafoginis scored on a penalty kick.
"It was a very professional win by the boys. We bossed the first half of the game and were able to get three goals in a 7 minute stretch of the first half," said head coach John Shaffer. "In the second half we did not pass the ball as well but defended and did what was needed to get the clean sheet. I have to commend the work effort of the entire team, they came out with a good energy."
Junior Jake Mitchell recorded 7 saves in net for the Hornets for the shut out.
In the J.V. game, the Hornets lost 1-0.
With the win, the Varsity team improves to 6-2 (6-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 24 as they host Northern Potter.
