The Wellsboro Varsity boys soccer team finished 2nd in District IV Class A as they fell to Bloomsburg Saturday night.
Jon Nixon scored two goals in the game. Nixon got his first goal with 14:28 left in the opening half off a Mark DeLuca assist. He scored again in the second half at 22:45 unassisted.
Despite the loss head coach John Shaffer was pleased with their performance.
"I am very proud of the boys," Shaffer remarked. "They implemented the game plan and had some chances to be dangerous. Against a great team you can't have mental mistakes and unfortunately two mental lapses gave them their best chances. This game showed us that we can compete with the best in the area and we are excited for our first state game."
The Hornets were out shot 12-0 while Bloomsburg also had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Jake Mitchell made five stops on the night.
The Hornets will now begin PIAA state playoffs on Tuesday, November 5 as they face District III Champion Biglerville as Boiling Springs High School at 5:00 p.m.
