Hornet baseball falls to Mansfield

The Wellsboro Varsity baseball team fell to Mansfield 10-6 Friday night on the road.

The Hornets started out with a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but Mansfield scored two runs in the 2nd and 4 in the 3rd inning to take a 6-4 lead. Junior Brian Doty tied the game with a 2-run home run in the 5th inning, but Mansfield would score 4 more runs in the 5th and 6th innings to seal the victory.

Senior Ben Shaw continued his hot streak from the plate as he went 2-2 with a home run and 3 runs scored and Senior Matt Reese went 2-4 and scored a run.

Junior Brandon Owlett started the game on the mound for the Hornets, going 3 innings and giving up 6 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits. Owlett also walked 6 batters and struck out 4. Senior Dan Saniga came on in relief giving up the final 4 runs on the night in the loss.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 9-3 (3-2 NTL West). Also over the weekend, the Wellsboro JV team dropped a double-header to Athens 0-4 and 2-8.

The team will be back in action on Monday, May 6 as they host Cowanesque Valley.
