The Wellsboro boys soccer team got a goal from Senior Erik Stemcosky off an assist from Sophmore Quinten Curneir assited to defeat Millville 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
The win moves the Hornets into the semi-finals where they will face NTL champions Sayre.
"It was a total team effort," remarked head coach John Shaffer.
"Coming into the year I did not now how much depth we had to the team," explained Shaffer. "Today we found out. We picked up an injury in training yesterday and then a nasty slide tackle took out another player in the first half. We had to shuffle the deck but the players stepped up big time."
Shaffer pointed out the play of Sean Dooley, Josiah Hill, Isaac Leach, Dylan Plume and Austin Haskins off the bench as key to their win.
"Gillan Alafoginis dropped in at center back and helped get the shut out," Shaffer said.
Despite the physical nature of the game the Hornets were able to keep their cool and come out with the clean sheet.
"Erik scored a great goal in the first half and then the boys played professionally to get the result. To reach the district semi-finals is a dream come true."
With the win, the Hornets improve to 16-4 (14-4 NTL).
