The Wellsboro Varsity boys soccer team picked up a shut out, 3-0 league win over Mansfield Saturday morning in Wellsboro.
Senior Erik Stemcosky dominated on the day as he recorded a hat trick, all coming in the first half. The first goal came 10 minutes in as Sophomore Quinten Curneir found Stemcosky for a goal to take a 1-0 lead. Then, with 7:55 left to play Stemcosky scored again, this time off an assist from Junior Gillan Alafoginis.
Stemcosky would get the hat trick as with 3:49 left in the opening half he found the back of the net off a helper from Freshman Josiah Hill.
"It was a classy and professional game by the boys," head coach John Shaffer said. "They implemented our game plan to perfection. Eric had a great hat trick in the first half. In the second our goal was to see the game out without giving up a goal. I need to point out the great play of the backline and goalie for their first clean sheet of the year."
Junior Jake Mitchell recorded 6 saves in net for the team to earn his first shut out of the year.
In the JV game, the Hornets lost 4-2. Hill scored both goals for the team.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-0 (2-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 10 as they host Galeton.
