The Wellsboro boys soccer team found themselves down 2-1 to Northern Potter at halftime on Tuesday. The Hornets would rally though in the second half to capture the win, 3-2.
Northern Potter took an early 1-0 at 8:08 on the clock, but Senior Erik Stemcosky took an assist from Sophomore Joe Allen at 12:43 to tie the game at 1-1.
Northern Potter took the lead at 22:50 as Payden Bice scored off a Morgan assist, and remained on top until 10 minutes to go when Senior Dan Brooks scored off a Stemcosky helper, followed by Stemcosky scoring off an Allen assist five minutes later to give Wellsboro the win.
"I am so proud of the attitude of the boys tonight," said head coach John Shaffer. "Northern Potter came out strong and deserved their halftime lead. In the second half we held them to one shot and dominated the game.
"We had multiple chances on goal disallowed but the boys kept fighting and never gave up. It is good to have adversity during the season and tonight was a character builder for these young men."
Wellsboro out shot Northern Potter 13-7 and had a 14-3 edge in corner kicks. Junior Jake Mitchell made 5 saves in goal for the team.
In the J.V. game, Wellsboro won 1-0 with a goal from Freshman Landen Kennedy.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 14-3 (14-3 NTL). The will be back in action on Thursday, October 17 as they travel to Sayre for the NTL Championship.
