The Wellsboro Varsity boys soccer team dropped a league game to Galeton Tuesday night.
The Hornets and Tigers were held scoreless until the 77th minute when the Galeton was able to get the defining goal and pick up the 1-0 NTL win. Galeton out shot Wellsboro 18-8 and had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Junior Jake Mitchell recorded 13 saves in goal for the Hornets.
"This was a game with district intensity and competitiveness," said head coach John Shaffer. "Galeton is a very good team who fought hard and was able to get a goal with just a few minutes remaining. Jake Mitchell and the back four were great tonight for us, we just didn't execute in the final third and didn't threaten them as much as we could have."
In the J.V. game, the Hornets won 1-0 off a goal by Freshman Josiah Hill.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 8-3 (8-3 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, October 3 as they travel to Athens.
