Despite being outscored by Galeton 16-4 in the third quarter, the Wellsboro Lady Hornets got it back together in the fourth quarter to defeat the Galeton Tigers by a score of 54-39.
"It felt like we just fell apart in the third quarter," said coach Mary Grab. "We went from holding an 18 point lead at half time to being a mere six points ahead at the end of the third quarter. Galeton capitalized on our lapse in confidence and concentration," continued Grab. "I was really impressed by their intensity and pressure defense."
Leading the way in scoring were Raina Rogers with 19 points and Mackenzie Marple with 12. On the boards, Hannah Zuchowski pulled down 9 rebounds while Andrea Dean had 7.
"Mikayla Palmer-Bacon did a great job of pressuring Andi Leach, (Galeton's quick point guard) and keeping them out of their rhythm. I was really proud of the way the girls turned it around in the fourth quarter," commented Coach Grab.
On the JV end, the Lady Hornets fell to Galeton by a score of 24-13, following a 10-2 fourth quarter run by Galeton. Paige Carr led all scorers with 6 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Camilla Sossi was a presence on the boards as well, hauling in 9 rebounds. The girls team will be back in action on Monday, January 9 as they travel to Westfield to take on the Cowanesque Valley Indians.
