Volleyball tops Southside

The Wellsboro Varsity volleyball team team up a non-league win last night as they took on Elmira Southside.

The Hornets took the first two sets 25-10 and 25-19. Southside rebounded in the third to win 25-21, but the Hornets recovered in the fourth set to win 25-19 to take the match.

Senior Hannah Zuchowski had 15 kills, Juniors Kaelyn Keane and Maggie Smith each had 3. Senior Mackenzie Marple had 17 assists and scored 24 points and Junior Alex Kurtz pitched in 15. Junior Katie Straniere recorded 30 digs.

In JV action, the Hornets won 2-1 (17-25, 25-14, and 25-6) to earn their 8th win of the season.

With the win, the Hornets imrove their 2012 season record to 7-3 overal (4-2 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Thursday, October 4 as they travel to Williamson.
