The Hornets secure first place in the NTL West with a convincing win over the Troy Trojans, 13-7. But it wasn't without its own drama. The visiting Trojans jumped out to a 3 run lead as Wolfe hits a 3-run blast in the top of the first inning off Pat Herres. The Hornets countered with 4 in the bottom of the first and never looked back as they tacked on 4 in the second and another 5 in the third. Herres settled down after the early shaky start to throw a total of 18 pitches in the 2nd and 3rd inning to secure the win.
In the end, the Hornets out hit the Trojans 14-4.
"Herres started tentative tonight, but responded to the adversity by bearing down on his fastball and focusing on his pitch location," said head coach Philip Prough. "He kept the Trojans in check to allow our offense to gain its momentum.
"We have a good hitting team and we believe we can score runs. Our pitchers just need to keep us in the game and Pat did that for us tonight."
Leading the Hornets offensive charge were Thomas Johnson 2-5 with 3 RBIs, Billy Sell 1-3 with 2 RBIs, and Pat Herres 2-2 with 4 RBIs.
Junior Matt Reese, Senior Pat Parsons, Junior Ben Shaw, and Sophomore Brian Doty added 2 hits each. Sophomore Dylan Prough added 1 hit in the win.
Herres recorded the win as a logged 3 innings of work. Brandon Owlett and Johnson finished the game with 2 innings each.
With the win, the Hornets are now 4-1 (4-1 NTL West) on the season. The team will be back in action on Friday, April 20, as they host the Canton Warriors.
