Hornets and NEB game suspended

The Wellsboro Varsity baseball game against Northeast Bradford was suspended at 10-10 due to darkness last night. The Hornets had a 10-7 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Northeast Bradford battled back with three runs to force extra innings.

The game will be completed at a time and date to be determined.

Junior Matt Reese had two hits, scored three runs and stole three bases, Senior Pat Parsons had two hits, stole two bases and scored a run and Junior Ben Shaw had a hit, two steals and scored two runs.

Sophomore Brian Doty had a double, a stolen base and two RBI, Senior Thomas Johnston had a hit, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases, while Sophomore Dylan Prough had a hit, a run scored and two RBI.

Sophomore Brandon Owlett had two hits, a double, a triple, a run scored and an RBI and Senior Brandon Grinell hit a solo home run.

Senior Pat Herres struck out one in one inning, with one run allowed, earned, and two hits for Wellsboro. Johnston worked two innings with two strikeouts, Owlett struck out four in two innings and Reese struck out five in two innings.

Junior Varsity action

In the first game of a Saturday double header against Sayre, Wellsboro fell 7-6. Nick Callahan tossed five innings. The Hornets found themselves up 6-2 at the end of four innings, but squandered the lead with three errors a walk and two hits in the top of the fifth. Sayre put up five runs, and held on to the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Nick Levindoski had the sole hit for Wellsboro, with runs being scored by Cody DeHaas, Brett Kendrick, Rusty Krystoff, Levindoski and Tanner Swan.

In the second game of the double header, the Hornets reversed their fortune and came back in the bottom of the fifth in a thrilling win. James Langs hurled five innings, striking out seven and giving up just three runs, all in the top of the fifth inning. The Hornets again entered the fifth inning with a lead, this time 2-0. The Hornets were relentless in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs sparked by a Levindoski hit, a Krystoff walk and eventually driven in by the hero of the day, Andrew Kozuhowski. The final score was 4-3 Wellsboro.

Kendrick, Levindoski, and Kozuhowski all had hits for Wellsboro.

The Wellsboro Hornets fell to the Mansfield Tigers 13-2 on Tuesday night. The Hornets pitchers and defense showed their faults, as they issued 12 walks and committed three errors on the day. Levindoski started the game on the mound, going two and two-thirds innings. He was relieved by Kendrick, who threw one third of an inning. Kyler Widows finished the day, throwing the final two innings. The offense was highlighted by Langs, who hit a thrilling inside the park home run. Pat Smith scored the other run for Wellsboro, as he hustled his way on base and scored on an Mansfield error. Kendrick added two hits in the game.

"Mansfield showing up late really threw us out of rhythm, once we got the thought in our minds the game might be off, we never regained our focus," Wellsboro catcher Nate Harding added.
