The Wellsboro girls track team picked up their seventh win of the season as they topped the visiting Athens Wildcats, 95-51. The team took first place in 14 out of the 18 scored events. In the 100m dash, Senior Mikayla Palmer-Bacon took the top spot in 13.5 and Freshman Lauren Bleggi finished right behind her with a time of 13.6.
In the 200m run, Senior Taylor Acorn captured the top spot with a time of 26.5. Bleggi again took home second spot, this time with a time of 27.5. In the 400m run, Senior Raina Rogers won with a season best time of 59.4.
In the distance runs, Wellsboro captured the top spots in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m runs. Sophomore Charlotte Worthington took home first place in both the 800m and the 1600m run with times of 2:41.5 and 5:54.9, respectively. In the 3200m run, Freshman Annie Sweeney took home first place with a time of 13:29.3.
The Hornets also swept the top three spots in the 100m hurdles. Rogers took home first (16.8), Junior Mackenzie Marple was second (17.5), and Freshman Elise Becker finished third with a time of 18.9.
Wellsboro took home the wins in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. The 4x100m team won with a time of 51.8, while the 4x400m team won with a time of 4:19.1.
Rounding out the other winners for the Hornets were Rogers (high jump), Sarah Kramer (pole vault), Acorn (long jump), and Marple (triple jump and javelin).
With the win, the Hornets improve their 2012 season record to 6-0 (5-0 NTL Large). The team will be back in action on Saturday, May 12, as they compete in the NTL Large School Meet.
