The Wellsboro girls track team opened their first home meet with a win as they beat North Penn and CV tonight in Wellsboro. Wellsboro won the meet with 122 points, followed by North Penn in second with 54 points, and Cowanesque in third with 9 points.
The Hornets swept both the 100m and the 200m dashes, as Senior Taylor Acorn won both races. Senior Mikayla Palmer-Bacon and Lauren Bleggi finished 2nd and 3rd in the 100m, and Bleggi and Caitlynn Butler finished 2nd and 3rd in the 200m. In the 400m run, Junior Becky Chambers took the took spot with a time of 1:05.5 and Freshman Emilie Kramer finished in third.
The Hornets continued their dominance in the 100m and 300m hurdles, as Junior Mackenzie Marple took home the top spot in the 100m and Senior Raina Rogers took first in the 300m. The Hornets also swept all three relay events.
In the jumping events, Rogers took first in the high jump with 4' 10", Sarah Kramer captured the top spot in the pole vault with a height of 8', and Marple took home the crown in the triple jump with a distance of 32'. Kimberly Acorn finished right behind Marple in the triple jump at 30' 8".
With the win, the Hornets improve their record to 4-0 (2-0 NTL Large School). The team will be back in action on Friday, April 20, as they compete in the Bald Eagle Invitational.
