The Wellsboro Varsity girls soccer team tied Mansfield 2-2 in NTL league action earlier today in Wellsboro.
After getting shut out 3-0 earlier in the week against Athens, the girls team started strong. In the 37th minute, Freshman Jenny Young sent a ball over the defense's heads where Senior Sarah Kramer carried the ball down the field and scored to put the Hornets up 1-0. Kramer picked up her second goal of the first half in the 27th minute as she shot from the corner of the box and the ball snuck threw the keeper legs.
Mansfield was able to tie the game up in the second half as a ball ricocheted off of Kelsey Harer and got past goalie Meghan Bodine. Later, Mansfield's Jackie Hillson scored from the top right side of the box. The game went into double overtime before being ruled a tie at 2-2.
"We've come a long way since our first game and continue to improve and grow as a team," said head coach Carolyn Mitchell. "The Lady Hornets did an amazing job throughout the entire game putting pressure on the ball and played an extremely physical game."
In JV action, the Hornets shut out Mansfield 2-0 to pick up their second win of the season.
With the tie, the Hornets are now 2-2-1 (2-2-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 19 as they host Northeast Bradford.
