The Wellsboro Varsity girls soccer team suffered a 4-2 league loss to Troy last night.
The Hornets started strong as Sophomore Lauren Bleggi scored in the first 20 seconds of the game of an assist from Kimberly Acorn. Later in the first half, Sophomore Brooke Kohler scored in the 19th minute to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead over the Trojans.
The second half was all Troy, however, as they were able to score 4 goals to post the victory. The Trojans out shot Wellsboro 15-8. Sophomore Meghan Bodine recorded 6 saves in goal for the Hornets.
"We came out with a powerful start to score two goals and hold a team, that beat us earlier in the season 5-0, scoreless in the first half," said head coach Carolyn Mitchell. "Troy was able to capitalize on our few mistakes on defense and finish some direct kicks that resulted from our tough defense. It may be a loss on the record, but I truly believe it was a win when it came to positive attitudes and hard soccer to the last whistle."
In JV action, the Hornets tied Troy, 0-0.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 3-5-1. The team will be back in action on Friday, September 28 as they host Williamson.
