The Wellsboro Varsity girls soccer team picked up their second win of the season last night as they downed Wyalusing, 3-2.
The Hornets got the scoring started in the 34th minute as Senior Kimberly Acorn scored from the top of the box off an assist by Freshman Sarah Ingerick. With 13:13 remaining in the first half, Senior Sarah Kramer noticed an opportunity at the top of the box and scored by sending the ball just out of the keepers reach to put the Hornets on top 2-0.
Freshman Joey Taft scored Wellsboro's lone goal in the 34th minute of the second half to push the Hornets' lead to 3-0. Wyalusing would score to goals to bring the score to 3-2, but the Hornets would hold on for the win.
"It was an exciting game right up until the final buzzer," said head coach Carolyn Mitchell. "Our offense is also building confidence and putting the ball on goal whenever the opportunity exists.
"I'm very proud of the girls because tonight was a great example of a team effort to win."
With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-1 (2-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 12 as they travel to Athens.
