The Wellsboro boys track team opened their first home meet with a win as they beat North Penn and CV tonight in Wellsboro. Wellsboro won the meet with 109 points, followed by North Penn in second with 44 points, and Cowanesque in third with 32 points.
Wellsboro swept the 100m dash as Dan Brooks, Matt Reese, and Ben Shaw took the first three spots. Junior Jordan Jackson won the 200m dash in a time of 23.10, and Bob Owlett took home the top spot in the 800m run at 2:08.5.
In the mile run, the Hornets again swept the top three positions as Jackson, Owlett, and Bobby Hill recorded times of 4:34.3, 4:47.7, and 4:55.1, respectively.
In the 110m hurdles, Blair Carson finished in first place and Freshman Jack Chambers finished in second with times of 19.4 and 20.2, respectively. In the 300m hurdles Shaw, Chambers, and Carson finished second, third, and fourth behind North Penn's Anthony Strohecker.
Wellsboro continued their dominance as they swept all three relay events. The 4x100m team ran 46.7, the 4x400m team ran 3:50, and the 4x800m team ran 10:42.2.
Rounding out Wellsboro's other top performances were Thomas Straniere in the pole value (10' 6"), Dylan Prough in the long jump (19' 2"), Senior Chase Barnes in the shot put (37' 9.5"), and Nick Marple in the javelin (134' 4").
With the win, the Hornets improve their record to 2-2 (0-2 NTL Large School). The team will be back in action on Friday, April 20, as they compete in the Bald Eagle Invitational.
