The Wellsboro Varsity boys soccer team pulled out a 2OT win over Williamson tonight on the road.
The Hornets struck first in the 19th minute as Freshman Dawson Prough coverted a Dan Brooks pass to put the Hornets up 1-0. Williamson would eventually tie the contest up to force overtime.
Wellsboro played Williamson tough in overtime and as time was running down, Prough got an attempt for a break away goal but was pulled down in the box. Moments later, Sophomore Gillan Alafoginis converted a penalty kick to give the Hornets the victory with only 20 seconds remaining.
Sophomore Jake Mitchell recorded 7 saves on the night.
"This was a game of ups and downs. We played a great first half and scored a great goal with team passing," said head coach John Shaffer. "Once the game went into overtime we made a decision to not over commit players and as Williamson committed more, we countered and took advantage to setup the winning penalty kick."
In JV action, the Hornets defeated Williamson 1-0 on a goal from Freshman Nick Webster.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-7-1 (5-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Saturday, October 6 as they host Sayre.
