The Wellsboro boys soccer team picked up a 3-1 league win over the Galeton Tigers tonight in Wellsboro.
Tonight's game was a rescheduled game from earlier in the month that got postponed due to weather. Senior Luke Rudy scored the lone Wellsboro goal in the 34th minute of the first half off an assist from Junior Dan Brooks. In the second half, Junior Aaron Dillman scored in the 64th minute off assists from Brooks and Junior Dylan Prough.
Freshman Dawson Prough sealed the win for the Hornets with a goal in the 74th minute. Brooks recorded his third assist of the game on the goal. Sophomore Goalie Jake Mitchell recorded 3 saves (2 tonight and 1 from the previous outing).
"It was a very good win by the boys tonight," said head coach John Shaffer. "It was a weird start to the game because it was a suspended game and the boys came out a little flat. The boys played a great second half and scored some quality goals.
"This is an important win for us to set the tone for the rest of the league season," concluded Shaffer.
In JV action, the Hornets defeated Galeton 3-2. Junior Erik Stemcosky had 2 goals and Freshman Nick Webster one. Freshman Goalie Sean Dooley saved a penalty kick to keep the win.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-5 overall (2-0 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 18 as they travel to Liberty.
