The Wellsboro Varsity boys soccer team fell to Liberty last night in overtime, 2-1 in their final home game of the year.
The Hornets took the lead with just under 30 minutes to go in the second half as Ludy Rudy scored off an Aaron Dillman assist. Wellsboro dominated the game until they missed a clearance and gave up a breakaway goal. Senior Mitch Snyder ran down their forward but was called for a tackle in the box giving up a penalty kick.
The Hornets played tough and took Liberty into overtime, but the Mounties scored just two minutes into the period.
"In college or club soccer Mitch's tackle was a fair," said head coach John Shaffer. "In high school, however, it was a bit to much contact."
In JV action, the Hornets fell to Liberty 3-1. Freshman Jeshawn Paris scored the lone Wellsboro goal.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 6-9-1 (5-2 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Thursday, October 11 as they travel to Towanda.
