For the second time this season, the Athens Wildcats shut out the Varsity girls soccer team.
In their first meeting, Athens won 3-0. This time, they won 5-0. The Hornets allowed only 1 goal in the first half by Kirsten Colegrove, but she would go on to score a hat trick. Athens would go on to score 4 goals in the second half to claim the victory.
Sophomore Meghan Bodine saved 7 shots and Freshman Sarah Ingerick saved 2 in goal for the Hornets.
"We did a wonderful job marking the ball and putting pressure on the skilled Athens attack in the first half," said head coach Carolyn Mitchell. "We had a couple of breakdowns defensively in the second half, but where able to learn from them.
"Colegrove is a standout player with excellent ball skills and well deserved goals," concluded Mitchell.
In JV action, the Hornets shut out Athens 5-0.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 5-6-1. The team will be back in action on Friday, October 5 as they travel to Mansfield.
