Hornets drop Liberty

The Wellsboro girls tennis team improved to 2-1 on the year by defeating Liberty, 5-2. In singles action Kirsten Clemens defeated Noelle Payne 6-4, 6-0, Ashley Evans defeated Jessica Crum 6-2, 6-4, Raina Rogers defeated Jourdyn Buckheit 6-0, 6-0, Kiana Acorn defeated Paige Chester 6-4, 6-2, and Taylor Russell defeated Katey McCloskey 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles action, Brianna Quimby played in her first official match, teaming up with Lauren Morse for a hard fought 2nd doubles battle against Jourdyn Buckheit and Paige Chester. Quimby and Morse fell to Buckheit and Chester, 5-7, 6-1, (5-10). In the other doubles match, Rogers and Acorn lost to Payne and Crum 6-7 (2-7), 2-6.

Both doubles matches were very competitive, back and forth matches, and both fittingly involved tie-breakers. The Hornets return to action on Wednesday, August 31 against Bucktail.
