The boys soccer team shut out Liberty 2-0 Tuesday night in Wellsboro to clich a spot in the 2011 District 4 playoffs. Sophomore Dan Brooks got the scoring started for the Hornets in the 36th minute on an assist from Senior Caleb Weiss. Senior Darby Alafoginis later scored in the 58th minute to pick up his 13th goal of the year. Senior Goalie Luke Sampson picked up his 7th shut out this season as he saved 8 shots.
"This was a big win for the boys," said Head Coach John Shaffer. "This clinches our spot in districts and gives us an opportunity to win the NTL West for the first time in the 9 year history of the program. We have three games in a row starting Thursday to determine where we stand in the district come next week."
With the win, Wellsboro improves to 8-5-1 overall and 8-2 in the NTL West. In JV action, Wellsboro shout out Liberty 1-0 on a goal by Aaron Dilman. The team will be back in action this Thursday, October 20 as they host Northern Potter.
