One day after clinching the NTL West title, the boys soccer team defeated Galeton 6-2. Wellsboro dealt with a little bit of adversity during the game due to Senior Goalie Luke Sampson getting injured in pre-game warmups. Freshman Jake Mitchell replaced Sampson in goal, and according to Head Coach John Shaffer, performed well in his first Varsity start.
"The team really stepped up in support of Jake. He made some key early saves and the offense was very aggressive the first 20 minutes," stated Shaffer.
The Hornets got goals from Zach Pearson, Darby Alafoginis, Dan Brooks, James Langs, and Caleb Weiss to pick up their 10th win of the season.
"The team left off the gas a little the last 60 minutes of the game, but in the end they got the job done. We gave us two late goals with a younger line up in, so overall I'm very happy with earning our 10th win," said Shaffer. "If we can win tomorrow we will put ourselves in a good position for districts."
The Hornets will be back in action today as they travel to Towanda for a 3:30 p.m. game with the Black Knights.
