The Hornet boys soccer team clinched the NTL West title for the first time in school history by shutting out Northern Potter 1-0. Senior Darby Alafoginis scored his 14th goal on the year in the 33rd minute off an assist from Austin Dragovich to push the Hornets over Northern Potter. Senior Goalie Luke Sampson saved 8 shots to pick up his 8th shut out of the season.
"This was a great win for the boys," said Head Coach John Shaffer. "It is a shame that the weather caused the NTL West championship to be played for in such muddy conditions. Darby scored a great goal and I must give all credit to Luke Sampson in goal who played his best game this year in terrible conditions, and also the back four of James Langs, Mitch Snyder, Pat Parsons and Pat Herres. Those boys limited Northern Potter to very few opportunities. The group of 9 seniors have worked so hard of the last two years and tonight was a deserved outcome for them."
With the win, Wellsboro improves their record to 9-5-1 overall and 9-2 in the NTL West.
