The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team started the 2016 season with a 3-0 win over Canton on Tuesday, September 6.
The Lady Hornets won the first set 25-6 and the second 25-3. Canton was leading Wellsboro in the third set before Wellsboro rallied for a 25-22 victory.
"We did pretty well tonight," said head coach Sharon Zuchowski. "We only have 11 girls on our squad and its the first time our starting 6 have played together, but we did well. There's definitely room for improvement but I like what I saw."
Senior Morgan Florio scored 15 points and had 4 aces, 10 kills, and 9 assists. Junior Brianne Keane had 11 assists and 11 points, and senior Olivia Kurtz and junior Grace Feil had 9 points each. Junior Jillian Graver and senior Kirsten Florio had 6 kills each, junior Hannah Burnett had 6 assists, and junior Sydney Tremper recorded 20 digs.
In the JV game, Wellsboro won in straight sets, 25-15 and 25-21.
The win gives the Lady Hornets a 1-0 record to start the season. The team will be back in action on Thursday, September 8 at Williamson.
