The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team swept the season series with Troy with a 55-32 win on Friday, January 22.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 11-4 lead and never looked back. Wellsboro blew the game open as they outscored Troy 18-11 in the second quarter to take a 29-15 lead at halftime. Baskets kept falling for the Lady Hornets in the third quarter as they put up 14 points then finished the game with 12 in the fourth quarter for their sixth win in the past seven games.
Senior Sarah Ingerick led Wellsboro on the night with 17 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Ingerick has now scored 205 points this year, giving her 985 for her career. Ingerick needs only 15 more points to become the Lady Hornets' ninth 1,000 point scorer.
Senior Jada Jackson finished with 13 points, sophomore Lizzie Poirier and junior Jessica Grab scored five points each, senior Alexa Singer, sophomore Rachael Tuttle, and freshman Julia Smith all added four points, and junior Autum Kitajima pitched in three. Tuttle also grabbed seven rebounds, Lizzie Poirier recorded six assists, and Kitajima added five assists.
The JV team improved to 14-3 on the year with a 30-18 win. Smith and freshman Emma Poirier led the team with 10 points each.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 13-4. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 27 at Wyalusing.
