The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team struggled on offense as they lost 56-27 to Athens on Tuesday, February 2.
Athens outscored the Lady Hornets 19-6 in the first quarter and never looked back. Wellsboro made up a little ground in the second quarter, but were still outscored 12-8, as they trailed 31-14 at halftime. Athens would then outscore Wellsboro 25-13 in the second half to claim the NTL Division 1 victory.
Senior Sarah Ingerick and sophomore Rachael Tuttle each scored 10 points to lead the team, while senior Alexa Singer scored four, junior Jessica Grab had two, and junior Autum Kitajima finished with one point.
Tuttle grabbed nine rebounds in the game to give her a team-high 137 on the year.
Athens won the JV game 38-10, the fewest points Wellsboro has scored all year. Only two Lady Hornets scored in the game. Freshman Julia Smith had seven and freshman Emma Poirier had three.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 16-5 on the year. The Lady Hornets will be back in action on Friday, February 5 as they travel to North Penn-Mansfield.
