The Wellsboro Golf team came home with a 6th place finish at the District IV AA Championships at Eagles Mere Country Club on Thursday, October 6.
"Today was a good experience for the whole team to see how we stack up against other schools from outside our league," said head coach Steve Macensky.
The Hornets shot 386 as a team to finish ahead of Midd-West (390), Montgomery/Muncy (418), Lewisburg (419), and Sayre (421). Central Columbia won the team championship with a collective score of 344. Northern Tioga (353) was 2nd, Danville (367) was 3rd, Benton (375) was 4th, and Lourdes Regional (384) rounded out the top 5.
Sayre's Ryan Murrelle is the leader in the clubhouse after day 1 with a round of 74. Sophomores Brandyn Tuttle and Ben Barnett were the top finishers for the Hornets in 11th and 12th overall, respectively. Tuttle finished with a round of 84 with 2 birdies and Barnett was a stroke behind him with an 85. Both qualified to continue play back at Eagles Mere on Saturday, October 8.
"I'm proud of Ben and Brandyn for qualifying for second round play," continued Macensky. "They both have worked hard all year and deserve to be there."
Rounding out the scores were sophomore Taynton Repard (97), freshman Joseph Propheta (120), and sophomore Chris Richardson (121).
