The Wellsboro Middle School Volleyball team suffered their first loss of the year to Liberty on Monday, September 21.
The Lady Hornets lost the first set 25-21 and the second 25-8.
"The girls played hard during the first set, but seemed to give up or lose focus during the second set," said head coach Jen Outman. "Once they were down, it was difficult for them, as a team, to regroup and maintain a positive attitude about their play and abilitiy."
Ryann Adams led the team with 9 serves. Cathryn Brought led the team with 12 sets, Brought and Megan Starkweather each led the team with 11 passess. Adams had 3 spikes, Brought had 1 kill, Caitlyn Callahan had 1 spike, Breighanna Kemp had 1 spike, and Starkweather had 2 kills and 1 block. Grace Brueilly performed well as libero and dug up two digs.
"Serving and serve receiving were our major down falls for the evening," continued Outman. "We had a difficult time finding our service rhythm early in the first set. NPL had several great servers, which made it challenging for the girls since they have not had that level of completion so far."
The B-Team lost in three sets; 22-27, 25-18, and 12-15. Mackenzie Patterson (13) and Olivia Crocco (8) led the team in serves, and Ella Brill had one tip.
The young Lady Hornets are now 3-1 on the year. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 23 as they host Cowanesque Valley.
