The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team picked up their second win of the week as they beat Troy 39-21 on Friday, February 20.
The Lady Hornets led 10-0 at the end of the first quarter and 23-2 at halftime. In the second half, Wellsboro played more of their young players. After the third quarter they led 33-9, and then hung on for the win as Troy scored 12 fourth quarter points.
Julia Smith led Wellsboro with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Jaime Palmer scored eight points, and Emma Poirier had seven points and four assists.
"We had a solid outing at Troy tonight," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We played really well at times, but then we had some sloppy play and got outhustled on some occasions. Our girls played through it and realize the importance of showing up ready to go for every game. We have to get ready for Coudersport on Tuesday and they are always tough. I look forward to seeing how our girls respond to the next challenge."
With the win, the team improves to 6-2. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, February 24 as they travel to Coudersport.
