The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team picked up their eighth win of the season with a 33-21 victory over Northeast Bradford on Friday, March 6.
"The first quarter was our worst of the year, in which we had significantly more turnovers than points, and we were behind 7-6," said head coach Darrell Morris. "NEB really hustled and they were aggressive, so we have to give them some of the credit.
"We settled down and played better the rest of the game, but it was a sloppy win. I didn't have to say much to our girls after the game though, because they are very motivated to do well, and I am sure they will come out in our next game refocused and ready to go."
Emma Poirier led the way with 11 points on the night. Dani Hunt, Julia Smith (13 rebounds), Jaime Palmer, and Heidi Zuchowski (12 rebounds) each added 4 points, and Cathryn Brought added 2 points.
The B Team won 16-7 to even their record at 2-2. Liza Manning had 4 points, Tiana Lecker and Luna Alexander had 3 each, and Ruby Stocks, Kayla Mengee, and Caitlyn Callahan had 2 points each.
With the win, the girls improve their record to 8-3. The team will be back in action today as they participate in the Towanda tournament with a 11:30 a.m. game with Warrior Run.
