The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team started their season with a third place finish at the Central Mountain Tournament on Saturday, September 5.
The Lady Hornets started the day with a 25-10, 25-11 win against St. Joseph Catholic, before falling 25-14, 25-15 to West Branch. In their third pool game, Wellsboro beat Penns Valley 25-19, 25-15 to advance to the gold bracket semi-finals.
Wellsboro was against matched up with West Branch. The Lady Hornets took the first set 25-23, but lost the second 25-19 and the third 15-3 to finish the day in third place.
Senior Haley Zuchowski was high scorer with 20 points. Senior Mikayla Feil had 15 and senior Maddy Kyle had 14. Senior Darci Warriner had 16 kills and junior Morgan Florio added 13 kills. Junior Kirsten Florio had 11 kills and 4 blocks and senior Hannah Wagaman had 48 digs on the day.
"We missed a lot of serves today," said head coach Sharon Zuchowski. "I saw a lot of potential but also things to work on. Overall today was a good starting point."
The Lady Hornets will be back in action on Tuesday, September 8 as they travel to Canton.
