The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team kept their perfect record intact with a 2-1 win over Lakeland on Saturday, September 26.
Both Hornet goals came in the first half. With 27:46 remaining, senior Tucker Worthington scored on a penalty kick to put the Hornets up 1-0. Less than a minute later sophomore Tanner Runyan converted a pass from senior Dawson Prough to make it 2-0 Hornets.
Lakeland avoided the shut out with 5:53 on the clock.
"Today was a big win for the boys," said head coach John Shaffer. "We wanted to demo a trip to districts by traveling a long way to play a tough opponent. Lakeland is a great team and today was a battle. Our defense was organized and limited a very talented attack. We scored a couple great goals today and found a way to make them hold up. Casey Hoover had some huge saves today."
Hoover made four saves in goal on the afternoon. In the JV game, the Hornets tied 1-1 on a goal by freshamn Adam Cornell.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 8-0 (5-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, September 28 as they travel to Northeast Bradford.
