The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team suffered their second straight loss when they took on Jersey Shore on Monday, January 12.
The Hornets were no match for AAA Jersey Shore's outside shooting and aggressive defense, as they lost 60-40. Wellsboro got down 7-2 early in the first quarter, but then Jersey Shore blew the game open in the second quarter as they outscored Wellsboro 23-13 as they took a 37-20 lead at halftime.
Wellsboro would make up a little ground in the third quarter, but the first half deficit was too much.
Jersey Shore held the Hornets' leading scorer Senior Michael Pietropola to just four points on the night. Senior Kieron Smethers led the team with 13 points and had seven rebounds. Freshman Quinn Henry had eight points, Sophomore Brandon Lamphier had seven, Senior Jake Mitchell scored four, and Senior Brieux Thibaut and Freshman Dalton Prough each had two points.
The Hornet JV team won an exciting double overtime game 57-55 to start the night. Prough led the team with 22 points.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 8-3 (3-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 14 as they travel to Williamson.
