The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team's season came to an end on Tuesday, November 3 in the semifinal round of District IV Class A playoffs with a 4-0 loss to #3 East Juniata.
The Hornets fought hard and had scoring chances early, but East Juniata was effective in minimizing any more chances Wellsboro had on the night, as they controlled the ball for the majority of the game.
"We knew EJ was going to bring a real high press and put a lot of pressure on us and make it difficult to pass the ball," said head coach John Shaffer. "We had a couple opportunities in the first five minutes and then later on for the first 10 minutes of the second half. Even though they had the ball the majority of the time I think we competed at a pretty fair level."
East Juniata's attacking offense eventually scored with 19:36 remaining as Trevor Goodling kicked a shot over junior Casey Hoover's head to make it 1-0. Just over a minute later Goodling scored his second goal off an assist by Jake Sankey to make increase the lead to 2-0.
The score remained 2-0 in favor of East Juniata until 14:46 of the second half as Goodling completed his hat trick as he snuck a goal past Hoover to the bottom left corner of the net to make it 3-0 Tigers. The game's final goal came with 2:41 left to play as Gabe Coder sent a corner kick in front of the goal that bounced off a Hornet defender into the net to make it 4-0, eliminating the Horents from the tournament.
Hoover made 7 saves on the night on 13 East Juniata shots. The Hornets were held to only one shot on goal, and East Juniata had 8 corner kicks on the night.
The loss end the Hornets' season at 17-3-1 (11-2-1 NTL).
