The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up their third consecutive win with a 75-33 victory over Canton on Saturday, December 12.
The Hornets started slow in the first quarter as they found themselves tied 15-15 with the Warriors after the opening quarter. The Hornets then switched defenses to their half-court trap and outscored Canton 22-5 in the second quarter as Canton had trouble handling the pressure. Sophomore Quinn Henry turned on the offense for the Hornets in the quarter as he hit three three-pointers to blow the game open.
The Hornets continued their defensive pressure in the third quarter and outscored Canton 16-7 and scored 22 more points in the fourth quarter to Canton's six to finish out the game.
Junior Jacob Singer led all scorers on the night with 17 points. This was Singer's fourth straight game of 15+ points and is he now averaging 17 points per game to lead the Hornets in scoring with 68 points on the year. Henry finished the night with 16 points and three steals, and sophomore Dalton Prough had 13 points and seven rebounds.
Sophomores Nic Ingerick and Collin Pietropola both scored seven points, junior Brandon Lamphier finished with five points, junior Alden Weiner had four, and senior Dawson Prough and freshman Andrew Brelo had three. Singer added in four assists and six rebounds, Dalton Prough had four steals, and Weiner and Pietropola each had five rebounds.
Wellsboro won the JV game 45-25 for coach Chase Kriner's 99th career win. Freshman Brandyn Tuttle led the team with 9 points and Brelo and freshman Holden Kennedy each added eight.
The Varsity team improves to 3-1 on the year and will be back in action on Monday, December 14 as they host Freedom Academy from New York.
