The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team stayed perfect with a 1-0 shut out over Williamson on Thursday, September 24.
The Hornets scored the game's only goal with 19:04 left on the clock in the second half. Junior Josiah Hill made a direct kick and Williamson put the ball into their own goal to give Wellsboro a 1-0 lead. The stingy Hornet defense limited Williamson the rest of the way to pick up the win.
The Hornets outshot Williamson 10-2, had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, and junior Casey Hoover recorded 3 saves in goal on the night.
"The boys played great tonight and we controlled the game start to finish," said head coach John Shaffer. "The back line of Joe Allen, Dalton Prough, Nic Ingerick and Nick Webster were brilliant limiting Williamsons attack.
"If we would've been more clinical with our chances it could have been 2-nil within the first ten minutes," continued Shaffer. "We continued to put pressure on and got the goal off a deflection in the second half. We are set up for a great game with Lakeland on Saturday."
In the JV game, the Hornets won 3-0 to keep their perfect season intact at 4-0. Freshman Brett Rudy, sophomore Ryan Stough, and senior Alex Esposito all scored goals in the game.
The Hornets remain undefeated at 7-0 (5-0 NTL). The team will travel Lakeland on Saturday, September 26 at 2:30 p.m.
