Seniors Michael Pietropola and Kieron Smethers each scored over 20 points to lead the Hornets to a 68-41 victory over Wyalusing on Tuesday, January 6.
Smethers scored 10 of his 23 points in the first quarter to give the Hornets a 20-15 advantage in the first quarter. Wyalusing closed the gap in the second quarter as they outscored Wellsboro 19-18 to trail 38-34 at halftime. Pietropola scored 12 out of his game-high 29 points in the second quarter to keep the Hornets ahead.
The Hornets would turn on the pressure in the second half as they outscored Wyalusing 30-7 to claim the victory.
Smethers finished the game with a double-double as he grabbed 15 rebounds, giving him 508 for his career and 82 on the season. Sophomore Brandon Lamphier added four points, Senior Jake Mitchell and Sophomore Jacob Singer each scored three points, and Senior Brieux Thibaut and Freshmen Collin Pietropola and Nic Ingerick each scored two points.
Mitchell grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots on the night and had five assists.
In the JV game, Wyalusing beat Wellsboro 28-26.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 7-1 (2-0 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Thursday, January 8 as they travel to Towanda.
