The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up their second win of the year with a 59-51 defeat of Cowanesque Valley on Wednesday, December 9.
Wellsboro held a slim 14-12 lead after the first quarter and led 26-21 at the half before outscoring CV 16-6 in the third quarter to take a 42-27 lead into the final quarter. CV outscored the Hornets 24-17 in the fourth to try and make a comeback, but the Hornets were able to hold on for the win.
Junior Jacob Singer continued his impressive start to the season as he led the team with 17 points, 12 of them coming from behind the three points line. Sophomore Quinn Henry scored 16 points and had 8 assists, sophomore Dalton Prough finished with 15, three steals, and 10 rebounds, junior Alden Weiner had six points, junior Brandon Lamphier added three, and senior Dawson Prough pitched in two points.
The JV team won 41-16 to improve to 3-0 on the year. Sophomore Nic Ingerick led the team with 8 points and freshman Brandyn Tuttle and sophomore Collin Pietropola each had six points.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 2-1. The team will be back in action on Saturday, December 12 as they travel to Canton.
